Genie Garage Door Opener Keypads
Garage door keypads are a crucial part of your garage door system, with Genie being one of the best manufacturers in the industry! Below you’ll find instructions covering common Genie keypad models, including Genie Intellicode® keypad programming and older fixed-code pads. You’ll also find instructions on how to perform a Genie keypad reset, how to change the Genie garage code, and how to add extra door controls to the keypad. North Shore Commercial Door has years of experience in the garage door industry, so we know a thing or two about keypads!
Is the Genie Company a Good Brand?
Genie is a well-known garage door manufacturer that has been in the business for decades. The company is an industry leader in innovative technology, from creating the first mass-produced, radio-controlled residential garage door opener in the 50s, to the smart home technology the company continues to improve upon today and everything in between. If you’re interested in purchasing a Genie operator or are curious about how your current model ranks among others, you can check out our handy Genie Garage Door Openers Comparison Guide Chart!
What Features Do You Look for in a Garage Door Keypad?
The best garage door opener keypad for you depends on your lifestyle and garage setup. If carrying a garage door remote around isn’t ideal, you can opt for a keypad! Keypads are typically mounted outside of the garage and allow the home's residents to access the garage. They require a security code to open the garage door and can additionally act as an entry option if you lose your remote. Different keypads offer a range of features, such as a night vision camera, two-way audio, personalized PINs for family members or guests, and more. Some custom PINs can be set up with scheduled access, allowing package delivery drivers and dog walkers to enter your garage when you need them to, even when you are not home!
How To Replace Your Garage Door Opener Keypad
If your garage door keypad stops working, it can be hard to find a good replacement that’s compatible with your current garage door opener’s brand. Luckily for homeowners, universal keypads will sync with your opener regardless of the brand or model. Be sure to reference a keypad’s compatibility to ensure your opener’s specific model will work with your garage system.
Genie Keypad Models & Programming
Genie Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model GPWK-12 and GWK
(Works with remotes that have 9 or 12 internal code setting switches. The keypad is black with a slide-up cover showing the Genie logo only.)
This keyless garage door opener entry pad works with Genie transmitters using the 390 MHz frequency. It is not compatible with Genie Intellicode transmitters (if your keypad has Intellicode printed on the cover, go to the next set of programming instructions below). The door code in the step-by-step procedure below is determined by the internal code switches inside of your transmitter and the accompanying chart. Determine the settings of the first three switches and write down the corresponding number from the chart. Continue with the next three switches and their corresponding number until the last set of three switches. You should have three or four door code numbers.
