Old Genie Garage Door Opener Models

We have been selling Genie residential garage doors for over 50 years, and many older models are still in service. However, the openers may periodically wear out or break. This list of common older Genie garage door openers can be used as a guide to see which newer openers are compatible with your system. Use our records to determine which replacement Genie door remote to purchase.

Genie has been using the 390 MHz frequency for at least some of their remotes since 1980 and exclusively since 1998. Because of this, you can usually find a compatible newer remote even if the original is no longer manufactured. Consult the list below to see the opener models made during a certain period or for a certain type of opener. In some cases, we even list which modern remotes are the best replacement for old Genie door opener models, such as the GT912 or the GT90. You can also use the model number to check our current remote controls and see which are compatible.

There are two types of radio controls shown in this list. Each uses a base 390 MHz frequency. Note that each specific Genie remote model section in blue, shown below, is not compatible with the other blue remote model section.

1980-1992

These radio controls are either a 9-switch 390 MHz frequency or a 12-switch 390 MHz frequency with pre-series II controls (use GT912 remotes).
